Osjan

the legend of Polish world music, the band was created at the beginnings of 1970s. It was founded by Jacek Ostaszewski, a cooperator of the group Anawa, and Marek Jackowski. They were joined by Tomasz Hołuj. In the beginning the group was influenced by classical Indian music. You could also trace some avant-garde, classical and folk touches. In 1975 Marek Jackowski left the band and together with Milo Kurtis formed a rock band Maanam. In 1983 Tomasz Hułaj’s place was taken by Radosław Nowakowski. The “classical lineup”  of the band with Jacek Ostaszewski (flutes), Wojciech Waglewski (guitar), Milo Kurtis (percussion) and Radosław Nowakowski (drums) was formed then. Today the group (now without Kurtis) performs ocassionally, but still treat their every concert as a celebration. Because it has always been like that….
Osjan’s searches were always the most basic and universal elements of music. Osjan means spontaneity and no smaller concentration. It’s simplicity (resulting for example from the simplicity of the used acoustic instruments) and extremely sophisticated (coming not only from the virtuosity of the musicians).
